A Note on Diwali, To Diwali

Dear Diwali,

This year, I realized the beauty of your existence. It’s like water. Just as water takes the shape of its container, you take a different form in the mind of each person who thinks about you. I hope I’m making sense here. For me, you are not only the lights and sweets. You are also about the small things that make a festival feel like a wedding. Think about it, people start planning months in advance. The house cleaning, the decor, the delicacies, and the clothes. Isn’t that enough to call your celebration a wedding?

For me, you are an emotion. I’m always so very enthusiastic about you. I feel that everything is good when you arrive, even when it isn’t. I know you have heard the “good over evil”, “love and light”, “happiness and prosperity” tags before. Don’t worry, I’m not going to say any of these. But I do want to use a few tags which will explain what you mean to me. You are — “Sharing”, “Collective efforts to create joy”, “Guilt-free eating”, “One day perfection”, “People’s inner interior designers showcasing talents”, “Praising others’ work”,“The time where Atheist becomes Theist”, “Filling colors in the black and white world”, and “Lighting the earth”.

And I can go on and on and on. Diwali, you have my heart. You were, you are and you will always be my favourite. I love you, Diwali. Please always remain as bright, colourful, joyful, and auspicious as you are.

Love, Priya
