The One Gift Money Can’t Buy

Eva and Michael were a beautiful quintessential couple. They loved each other so much that Cupid himself wondered whether his position was going to be replaced by either of them. They had been school friends and had grown together through every phase of life. From sharing classroom benches to building a life together, their bond seemed unbreakable.

Michael was a big shot. He owned a hotel franchise and was a multimillionaire. He loved Eva beyond comprehension and never hesitated to show it. He showered her with gifts, took care of her needs, and treated her like a queen. He wanted to give her everything the world had to offer.

Yet, despite having everything, Eva often found herself alone.

Michael was deeply engrossed in his work. His days were packed with meetings, business trips, and endless responsibilities. Many evenings, Eva sat on the balcony with two cups of tea. One was for her and the other for Michael. More often than not, his cup would grow cold before he returned home.

However, Eva never complained. She knew Michael loved her deeply. She understood that he worked hard for their future. So, she quietly accepted his absence and continued to support him.

Soon, Eva’s birthday approached.

Michael wanted to surprise her with the best gift she had ever received. He spent days thinking about it. But for the first time in his life, he couldn’t find an answer.

Eva already had everything money could buy. Her wardrobe was filled with beautiful clothes. She owned a premium collection of makeup, perfumes, jewellery, handbags, and shoes. There was hardly anything left that he could gift her.

Confused and determined, Michael finally decided to ask her directly.

“Darling, what would you like for your birthday this year?” he asked.

Eva smiled.

“This is the first time you’re asking me that.”

Michael laughed. “Well, I want to get you the best gift.”

Eva looked at him lovingly and said, “You want to give me the best gift, right?”

“Of course.”

“You know, it’s free, yet more precious than anything money can buy.”

Michael was puzzled.

“What is it, my love?”

Eva paused for a moment before answering.

“It’s your time.”

Michael smiled at first, expecting her to mention something else. But when he looked into her eyes, he realized she meant every word.

For a few seconds, he had no response.

Suddenly, all those evenings he had missed, all the dinners he had postponed, and all the conversations he had rushed through flashed before him. He had spent years trying to give Eva everything, except the one thing she truly wanted.

His presence.

That birthday, Michael gave Eva exactly what she had asked for. He cleared his schedule, switched off his phone, and spent the entire day with her. They talked, laughed, went for a long drive, and relived old memories. It was one of the happiest birthdays Eva had ever celebrated.

Often in life, people become frustrated in relationships because they stop spending quality time with each other. They search for complicated solutions while ignoring the simplest one.
