When Love Feels Colourful

In a recent piece (Holi Beyond Colours) I wrote about how every emotion carries a colour of its own.

While reflecting on it, I realised there is one emotion where I feel those colours the most — love.

There are some people who don’t just enter your life — they colour it.

Not loudly.

Not all at once.

But slowly, deeply, unexpectedly.

Love, to me, feels like Holi.

It is not just about bright powders in the air or laughter echoing in the streets. It is about the way someone touches the quiet spaces inside you — the spaces you didn’t even know were waiting to be filled.

Some love is intentional.

Some love is intense.

And some love is incredibly rare.

I never knew I could be looked at the way love looks at me — like I am someone’s favourite thought.

If love were colours, I think it would look like this:

Red — the passion that lingers. The kind that burns just enough to remind you that you are alive.

Yellow — warmth. Arms that feel like sunlight when the world feels heavy.

Green — growth. The freedom to evolve, while still being held close.

Blue — understanding. Being seen even in your dramatic, moody, impossible moments.

White — silence. Two people breathing the same air, saying nothing, yet feeling everything.

When two people truly meet, they don’t just mix like colours on the surface.

They melt into each other — leaving marks that don’t wash away easily.

Maybe that is what real love does.

It stains.

Not in a way that harms —

but in a way that stays.

Maybe love is not just a feeling.

Maybe it is the colour we carry long after the festival ends.

What colour does love bring into your life?
