The Painting That Remained a Thought
Last night, I decided to paint something. The reference I had was of a woman sitting near a pond full of lotus flowers, while everything around her was dark. The woman seemed to be the only source of light in the darkness. She exuded radiance. She seemed to have descended from a celestial world. Who is she?
We have only her back view. Her long, curly hair seemed to carry the story of her growth. Her pink cotton saree mirrored her persona with the blooming lotus flowers. She seemed to belong to the pond as much as the lily pads floating upon it. Her aura was as pure as the sparkling water. Her unseen face seemed as beautiful as her reflection in the pond. Her strength rivalled the power hidden in the darkness. Her innocence seemed gentler than the stillness of the pond. Oh, and there were hanging blossoms, just to honour her mesmerising fragrance. Maybe this could be someone from the human world.
This is the description of what I wish to create. I still don’t know about her thoughts, though. Let’s assume that she is thinking about her future. No, that’s going to be all stressful. I don’t want this divine female to be stressed at all.
Okay then, maybe she is reminiscing about her happy memories and simply sitting in silence, living her present and expecting nothing at all. Just silence, peace, and her breath. Maybe she is just there to accompany the night. Maybe she is there to tell the flowers that they originated from her. Maybe she is there to flow with the water. Now, that’s a beautiful thought.
I started painting the canvas all black to create the effect of the night. I couldn’t go beyond that because the image of the lady and her persona were too overpowering. I couldn’t help but simply think about her aura. I am so fascinated by this imagination that I don’t want to share it with the world, perhaps to protect her from evil eyes.
Maybe the painting remains unfinished because the woman in my imagination is too radiant to be confined to a canvas.
Am I going to finish it someday? Probably yes, because I am too intrigued to know her. I am curious to know whether someone like her exists in reality.
Probably no, because some thoughts are better than reality. Maybe I could never create her because she might be creativity itself.
I don’t know. All I know is that this mere imagination fills my heart with joy, and at the same time, it gives me goosebumps.
